Abenaki Native artist Carmen Hathaway (née Sadoquis), in working with a variety of media stained glass, stone, clay, fine leather, fur, beads, oil and acrylic paint - honours tradition with contemporary expression.
In July of 1999, Hathaway expanded her home-based art business of four years to a retail gallery/studio location – Abenaki Art Works -- in the Recreation Centre at the Southport Aerospace Centre. Located 3 km south of Portage la Prairie, Southport is a unique commercial centre for aerospace, industry, training, conferences, residential housing and recreation.
Since graduation from Red River College's Creative Communications course in 1978, her career path has included positions of television copywriter and Promotion Director (CKND-TV/Global), account executive, radio broadcaster/producer, and manager of a retail floral operation. In 1995 - on completion of the Self-Employment Assistance Program - she launched Abenaki Art Works.
